Youth Aviation Adventure Introducing Young People to the Exciting World of Aviation. Youth Aviation is a program to introduce youth, ages 12 to 18, to all facets of Aviation. 5 hours of learning and excitement.  This fulfills all the requirements for the Boy Scout Aviation Merit Badge and is sanctioned by the Girl Scouts of America.  YAA is open to all youth ages 12 to 18.  Scout affiliation is not required.

Participants will progress through 10 learning stations introducing different aspects of aviation.

Learning Station Descriptions:

  1. Aviation In The Know – A Jeopardy style game where kids answer commonly known aviation questions
  2. Power Plants – An introduction to how piston and jet engines work
  3. Airport Operations – A discussion of how airplanes approach airports, move on the ground  and depart airports
  4. Aerodynamics – An overview of what each of the control surfaces on a plane does
  5. Helicopters – A look at the difference between rotary and fixed wing aircraft
  6. Fire Department Crash Truck – A demonstration of the equipment fire departments use in airport emergencies
  7. Careers – A view from the inside, of one of many possible jobs in aviation
  8. Instruments – An overview of what the instruments tell a pilot about what’s going on with his or her airplane
  9. Preflight – A presentation of how airplanes are checked before flight.
  10. FPG 9 Glider – A hands-on glider building project
